Trouble In Mind: Lyrics

As performed by Cisco Houston

Richard M. Jones

Appears on:
Trouble in mind, I'm blue
But I won't be blue always
'Cause the sun's gonna shine
   in my back door someday

I'm going down to the river
Take along my rocking chair
And if the blues don't leave me
I'll rock on away from there

I'll lay my head
On that lonesome railroad line
I'll let the 10:19
   pacify my worried mind

Trouble in mind, I'm blue
But I won't be blue always
'Cause the sun will shine
   in my back door someday

Lookee here, sweet mama
See what you have done done
Why you made me love you,
now you're reg'lar man done come

Well trouble, oh trouble
Trouble on my worried mind
When you see me laughing
I'm laughing just to keep from crying

I'm gonna lay my head
On that lonesome railroad line
I'll let the 10:19
   pacify my worried mind

Trouble, I'm blue
But I won't be blue always
'Cause the sun will shine
   in my back door someday

Of note:

Recorded by many famous names, Cisco certainly does this song justice, mixing pathos and optimism, a trait his voice always maintained, regardless of the sadness of the lyrics. Interestingly, every printed version of the lyrics I find has 2:19 rather than 10:19. And he provides a reason for the trouble; other versions do not explain but just whine.
