Gettin' Up Holler: Lyrics

As performed by Cisco Houston

Traditional

Appears on:
Talk about gettin' up at the break of day
Making my money and throwing it away
Well it's too damn hard for me
It's too damn hard for me
Well it's too damn hard for me

I drove old Bette till the break of the sweat
Six o'clock and it ain't day yet
I'm gonna jack you soon
I'm gonna jack you soon
Well I'm gonna jack you soon

I heard a mighty rumbling 'round the watering trough
Skinny kicked the hell out of the walking boss
But I ain't bothered yet
No I ain't bothered yet
Well I ain't bothered yet

I wash my shirt and starch it in sweat
Tell all the girls I ain't bothered yet
And you better not other me
No you better not other me
Well you better not other me

Of note:

In verse one, the included lyrics say "It's too damn hard for me" but it certainly sounds like "hot" to these ears. But as the meaning is opaque either way, it's hard to see what difference it makes.

In addition, for an "explanation" of the term jack, a recently popular word shortened from hijack to mean any robebry, see Liner Notes, though if you understand what he's implying, feel free to let me know.
